Safe Management and Administration of Medicines Certification

Medicines can improve health, relieve symptoms and help people maintain their independence. However, mistakes involving doses, timing, records or administration can cause serious harm. This course provides the underpinning knowledge staff need to support people with their medicines safely, confidently and in a person-centred way.

Designed for staff working in adult social care services in England, including care homes, supported living and homecare, the course explains the medicines-management cycle and the checks required before, during and after administration. It also covers roles and responsibilities, consent and mental capacity, self-administration, record keeping, PRN medicines, higher-risk situations, medication errors and escalation.

Please note: Completion of the course provides knowledge training but does not, by itself, confirm practical competence or authorise a learner to administer medicines.
